Acer Palmatum Dissectum Emerald Lace can also be "written as" and "pronounced as" "Aka Ne", "Aka" means Red and "Ne" means origin.

Of Japanese Origin it was introduced into Europe and the USA in 1984, a relatively new cultivar.

The Akane is very leafy and showy palmatum, the leaf colour is by far it's best character, there is a large spectrum of colours, from the stem to the tips. The stems are lime green, moving out to olive green and changing towards the tips to a red with a dark red outline.

In the spring the leaves start mainly yellow with pink edges, slowly changes into the stunning spectrum of greens and reds. In late September / October the leaves finally transform into a bright orange.

The Akane is similar to most Acers in that it is slow growing especially when potted, in its infant years it will grow to 2 to 3 foot in height and an adult tree will reach up to 9 feet in height and a width of upto 5 feet.
